Yoga is not only a spiritual and relaxing past time, it’s also something that helped writer Ash Constance battle her ED. Check out her thoughts and advice about yoga!
It’s time you add yoga to your bucket list right now, and come summer you definitely won’t regret it! Most of us think about exercise as physical, however, this incredible practise will heal your mind, body, and soul. It is truly transformational, and not only improves your coordination but helps you build lean muscle. This is great if you are want to engage in mind relaxation to destress or just want to improve your level of fitness! But, one thing that keeps a lot of people out for the studio is the idea that they are not flexible enough! This is exactly why you SHOULD do yoga! Trust me, you’d be surprised how simple some of the postures can be!
The following tips will prepare you for class, making you feel like a pro yogini even before you walk into the class:
Keep clothing casual
Less is more in this class, as you will sweat bucket-loads! There is absolutely no need to dress to impress. Wear something minimal AND comfortable, that you can easily move in. For example, a tank top and shorts or tight leggings.
Don’t be scared by ‘professionals’ in the room
In many studios you’ll encounter some intense yogi’s, but don’t be intimdated! They once were in your position, when they first started. There is absolutely no expectactions in the room, from student or teacher alike. In order to get the best results, they will act as a guide for you to follow, once you become familiar with the postures of the class.
You’ll get help along the way
The teachers are there to help. If you find a posture difficult, just sit out and breathe. Watch. Listen. Observe. You are still learning by observation, and you are not expected to perform everything perfectly right away. Always listen to your body, and if you have any questions, ask the teacher either before or after the class!
Every class has its own flow
Each class is the same, especially if you have the same teacher, so you’ll know what to expect. However, each class has its own flow. This is magical as it allows you to measure your physical and spiritual growth! You are balancing and aligning your body, as well as strengthening your mind.
So what are you waiting for? See you on the mat!
